As Jace has already said so well, this is a dialogue between dear friends. My goal here is not to be right, but rather to be in right relationship. Good arguments make a very unclear sound if the breath behind them is not love.
Jace and I disagree about lots of things, some things that matter a great deal. Much is at stake, especially if I'm right about some of those things. But do not make the mistake of assuming we disagree about everything. Much that we agree about is significant beyond measure; and we agree about more now than we used to.
This kind of dialogue is an interesting thing, for much of what we are sure to do will simply be the hard work of better articulating how we see things. If this hard work is done well, we just might find the path forward a bit easier. I'm quite certain that I hold thin and caricatured concepts of what Jace believes and doesn't believe, and in disagreeing with those things I am actually reacting more to the straw man in my own mind than the reality of the complex, layered, and nuanced system of belief actually present between his ears.
So my goal here is to listen, to learn, to gain a clearer understanding of what Jace sees, why, and most importantly, how he sees. This blog is his idea, so my only agenda is to let him get the ball rolling and see where it goes. The cat needs a bell and I've elected him to hang it.
